A few of my cups of tea

I’ve just returned from a few days away, and will link here to some bookish posts:

The Rap Sheet: “Ya Wanna Do It Here or Down the Station, Punk?” #2,012: Declan Burke. Petrona is particularly susceptible to the Irish charm of this gentleman, who has a rather delightful way with words, whether on his blog or in his sprightly opus (as in"The Big O[pus]") — so I can certainly recommend reading the taste of his own medicine he was administered at the Rap Sheet (link above).

While an enduring fan of her blog "Buzz, Balls and Writing Hype" (who couldn’t be?), I have found the three or four of M J Rose’s books I’ve read a mixed bunch — I’ve very much enjoyed a couple but found others disappointing. Her latest, "The Recincarnationist", gets an enthusiastic thumbs up David Montgomery, in view of which I’ll be happy to give it a whirl when it comes out in PB and is available in the UK, even though it apparently takes off from an author and a topic on which I’m not so keen. David writes that M J Rose has  "followed Dan Brown’s lead and done him one better with The Reincarnationist, a fascinating story of reincarnation that is one of the year’s most ambitious and entertaining thrillers".

Debra Hamel alerts us to a collaborative, serialised audio thriller, starting this Tuesday, 25 September.  Again, if she recommends it, it has got to be worth checking out, especially as, Debra writes, it is "written by the likes of Joseph Finder and David Hewson and Lee Child and spearheaded by Jeffrey Deaver".

One book I’d like to read, but looks like I can’t, is Bye Bye Baby, by Lauren Crow. See here for a great review on Crime Down Under. Sadly, no listing (yet?) on Amazon UK.

  1. I enjoyed Rose’s novel and recommend it highly and don’t agree with Montgomery. This isn’t a derivative novel. Its an orignal, and think Montgomery did the novel a disservice by comparing it to Dan Brown’s.
