Hours in the day

I was thinking while lying in bed last night how many hours one has in the day.

I mean, how many proper hours.

There are 24 hours in a day, I am told. For me, they go like this:

  • Work     10 hours
  • "Sleep"    7 hours
  • Commute 3 hours

OK, that’s 20 hours. Then there is an hour between getting up and going to work, doing things like showering, making lunchboxes etc, so that doesn’t count as "proper".

That leaves 3 hours, in which to:

  • interact with children (incl help with homework)
  • cook/eat meal
  • tidy up minimally (eg washing up, checking school letters for next day)
  • read
  • blog

Pretty difficult to do even those minimal things in that time, let alone phone family/friends, watch TV, go out or any of those other things that I am convinced "normal" people do.

What is it like for you?
